The long standing issue of iPod application crashing on the beta versions of iPhone continues. As the previous link points out, there is more than one way to fix the problem, depending on the circumstances.
My situation was not fixed by either of those tricks. Again, not too surprisingly, my iPhone started having iPod issues soon after I downloaded a Podcast. For now, I connected the phone to iTunes, turned off Podcast syncing and voila!, my iPod works now.
So as a summary and depending upon your specific situation, here are the three possible fixes to the iPod crash
- Plug the iPhone into iTunes, start playing music from the iPhone and unplug it
- Go to the Search preferences: Settings -> General -> Home -> Search Results and unmark the audio files. After that the iPod works fine.
- Plug the iPhone into iTunes and remove the Podcasts from the Sync settings

Rajeev, I just received my iPhone. I had Verizon but recently made the move to the iPhone amidst rumors of a new iPhone. Luckily I slipped in the last day to cancel and I am returning my phone to get the new one. I had to kick and scream but its on its way back. Thanks for the blog, now I know a iPhone Guru!
Hey Rajeev!, How are you doing?, I started having issues with my iPhone today, yesterday I was synching up new music when I received a message, I disconnected the phone so I could see the message and received an error in Windows about an iTunes crash, I reconnected the phoned and started synching again, everything seemed to be perfect but today I wanted to listen to some music and I noticed that iPod app crashes after 1 minute song playback, also noticed that podcasts are duplicated and performance is slower, I don’n want to tale extreme measures such as restoring the phone completely, any suggestion?
I forgot to mention my phone is updated to 3.1 and is not jailbroken
Thanks in advance
