iPhone – say hello! to NetApp

It’s only natural for us to do this. We have strategic business relationships with both Apple and NetApp and we tend to like both of these technologies. A result of the IronBrick, Apple and NetApp synergies is NTAPCalc. It is a simple little app that allows a NetApp administrator/customer/account manager to quickly do the following on their iPhone:

  • Calculate Raw and usable capacities by selecting drive sizes, number of drives, snapshot reserve percentage, raid group size and hot spares
  • Provides pie chart of the same depicting the distribution of those capacities
  • Provides handy recommendations while sizing

We hope that this is the first of the many iPhone applications we bring to our customers. (iPhone Ops Mgr, I dare say ? )

Currently, this app is distributed only in an ad-hoc mode (used by iPhone developers for beta releases), primarily because we need to make sure the legal peoplez from both sides are A-OK. Ad-Hoc mode of distribution means that I can only distribute this app to 100 devices, after registering their device unique ID. It’s actually much easier than you think…

  3. @Jeff and Everyone who’s asked for the app – We are STILL waiting for NTAP Legal to get back to us on this. May be this whole thing got lost in the “paperwork”. I did however, receive calls from a few marketing peeps @ NTAP who have pledged their support to push it thru…

  4. I’d love to grab a copy of this app if you have licenses available

  5. Victor Gonzalez says:

We would love to purchase some licenses for this app.

Please let me know how we can do this.

    Hello Rajeev,

do you have any news for us?

    //Patrik

  9. Unfortunately no news. I may just have to generalize the app and release it to AppStore..

  10. Please release it as a general app (I’m a NetApp employee BTW). You take the raw numbers from Synergy I take it? Someone else has released a SANcalc that does EMC CX calcs…

    Thx

  11. Mark Antonaccio says:

Hello. Is this app available yet?

  12. Bob Updegraff says:

I’m a consultant with NetApp partner Sirius Computer solutions. I could use this on every pre-sales call and post sales deployment! Is there any plan to release this app on the App Store?

How else can i get it?

  13. Mark says:

Please generalize the app and release it to AppStore.. Even if you sold it for $1.99, you could probably retire in a week. :o) This app is awesome. I’m a NetApp Engineer myself and can’t wait to get this. Stop teasing and release it please.

Some douche-bag in NetApp legal is holding up the deal. I used to work for NetApp, great company but the internal politics are a nightmare.

  15. H says:

I really need this Calc. Please release it.
If it’s take long time,I love to get a copy of this app.
    Thanks

    Rajeev,
I’m a NetApp sales rep and would love to get my hands on this app.
It looks like a great tool for calculating usable capacities while onsite with customers without having to lug in a PC.
I hope the app made it through NetApp legal.
Good work and I’m hoping you can share.
    Thanks
    Brad

    Hi Rajeev,
I work on the P S Distribution Team in the US.
I read on NetApp Communities that you have written an iPhone app called A Calc.
I am currently working on a project with my team member Dave Blanchar, to have an iPhone app which will be used
by engineers in the field when opening up cases with technical support.
Can you tell me if this is something you can provide?
If not, are you aware of anyone who can write such an iPhone app?
    Thank you very much.
