MobileMe Appliance

Wouldn’t it be great to have a mobileme appliance ?

About Apple MobileMe

You might have a Mac at home, a PC at work, and an iPhone or iPod touch. But how do you keep them all in sync? Businesses can use a server like Exchange. For everyone else, there’s MobileMe.

Even with the main stream Exchange enterprise deployments, IT groups are often in need of third-party bridge applications (some are more of a hack than an application) to make it all dance. Addressbook/GAL visiblity/synchronization, resource scheduling (calendaring), messaging (email) across a variety of platforms is still a sticky issue that is filled with band-aid solutions.

So I ask myself, why not let businesses run their own mobileme server ? Also, throw out an API and someone will put together a solution that will work for the shunned linux users as well.

I believe this is coming in the next server release of Snow Leopard. Apple was just setting the stage with MobileMe I believe this will also help them discover and fix many issues and we have already seen a few. ;)

  2. Fanboy,

Wondering if you are speculating or have more concrete information on the Snow Leopard roadmap.

    Cheers

“calendering” – Process of smoothing and compressing a material (notably paper) during production by passing a continuous sheet through a number of pairs of heated rolls.

The rolls in combination are called calenders; they are made of hardened steel or steel covered with fiber. In paper production, they typically exert a pressure of 500 lbs per linear in. (89 kg per cm). Coated papers are calendered to obtain a smooth, glossy finish. Calendering is also widely used in the manufacture of textiles, coated fabrics, and plastic sheeting.

“calendaring” is probably what you meant :-)
