NetApp’s got a new logo. The NOW site has a new look as of this evening. And now it looks like the main site also has this look.
Not sure what to make of the logo. Here are my first thoughts once I spotted the new look.
- Looks like a lego piece.
- A house.. ? Come to think of it, didn’t a real estate company has a similar one ?
- Blue — IBM ?
What terms do you think of ?
The company also sports a new tag line “Go further, faster”.
Come see NetApp’s new blues!

I am not against this logo. I think it would work well when it comes to the branding with the simple bold design that will reproduce well at every size they need it for. I also quoite like the tone of blue as well. Good work I say. Thank you for sharing.
Read this blog from Netapp founder who tries to explain about log which makes sense to me. But I DO NOT LIKE the logo at all!!

Didn’t NetApp hit $1 billion in revenue about 6 years ago? Compared to Isilon’s $85 mil today. Hmm… Also, Isilon’s stock, which hasn’t been trading that long, is also on an interesting trend.
Declaring NetApp as a no longer an innovative company is just some cheap-shot competitor speak.
That aside and all the financial data that’s hard to dispute, what’s left up to each individual’s interpretation are subjective matters and perceptions: why rebrand? what was broken that needed to be fixed? are these the signs that the marketing drones are taking over?
But, of course, if you still insist on comparing the two even in this regard, I’d take a new ugly logo over a slogan “Fibre Channel is dead!” (as declared by an Isilon engineer) anytime of the day. :-)
I think Netapp has done this because they are no longer innovative and are looking forways to get people excited. Which is not going to happen through a new logo. Isilon is where Netapp was 6 years ago.
Interesting. I knew it was their official video but did not know that it is part of their marketing material. Good to know.

Keep them coming!
That posting below is a snip from their official press release http://www.netapp.com/us/company/news/news_rel_20080310.html on the new branding, so that sorta explains it… at least their thinking.
Hey, are NetApp Koolaid drinkers allowed to post here? :-)
There is a 2 minute video out on the new branding. I have to say that it certainly take a bit of getting used to. The previous logo at least had some resemblance to a platter… I guess we’ve seen it all the time and kinda got used to it. I would love for someone to explain the new logo and the lego block design….

Btw, the “bold blue gateway” looks more like a narrow opening in a solid wall… As in, “yeah, there is a future behind it but you have to squeeze through and get by us first”. :-)
Looks like a hybrid of the new and old logos of Nationwide insurance.
