The new NetApp logo is a bold blue gateway, designed to convey NetApp’s strong history in the data management business and its commitment to innovation and customer service. The new logo also signals an opening to the future—a gateway to new possibilities, new ideas, and new perspectives—enabling our partners and customers to move beyond barriers and experience business breakthroughs. The new tagline, “Go further, faster,” communicates NetApp’s dedication to delivering products and services that help our customers achieve new business benefits and overcome limitations

Looks like a hybrid of the new and old logos of Nationwide insurance.

    Hmm… me not likey…

Btw, the “bold blue gateway” looks more like a narrow opening in a solid wall… As in, “yeah, there is a future behind it but you have to squeeze through and get by us first”. :-)

That posting below is a snip from their official press release http://www.netapp.com/us/company/news/news_rel_20080310.html on the new branding, so that sorta explains it… at least their thinking.

Hey, are NetApp Koolaid drinkers allowed to post here? :-)

I think Netapp has done this because they are no longer innovative and are looking forways to get people excited. Which is not going to happen through a new logo. Isilon is where Netapp was 6 years ago.

Didn’t NetApp hit $1 billion in revenue about 6 years ago? Compared to Isilon’s $85 mil today. Hmm… Also, Isilon’s stock, which hasn’t been trading that long, is also on an interesting trend.

Declaring NetApp as a no longer an innovative company is just some cheap-shot competitor speak.

That aside and all the financial data that’s hard to dispute, what’s left up to each individual’s interpretation are subjective matters and perceptions: why rebrand? what was broken that needed to be fixed? are these the signs that the marketing drones are taking over?

But, of course, if you still insist on comparing the two even in this regard, I’d take a new ugly logo over a slogan “Fibre Channel is dead!” (as declared by an Isilon engineer) anytime of the day. :-)

I am not against this logo. I think it would work well when it comes to the branding with the simple bold design that will reproduce well at every size they need it for. I also quoite like the tone of blue as well. Good work I say. Thank you for sharing.
