NetApp De-Dup FAQ

Following my post about how confusing the A-SIS stuff coming out of NetApp is, I’ve had some very good opportunities to discuss this in detail with the Tech OnTap folks and other NetApp engineers. The July issue of NetApp Tech OnTap features a very informative FAQ on all that is A-SIS and Deduplication. A must read for all Sysadmins. (speaking of Sysadmins, did you know that the next month’s issue of the Sysadmin magazine is THE LAST issue ? yikes!)

So if you are looking for some good informative de-dupe/A-SIS information from Netapp, first read the June issue of Tech OnTap where the technology is described in detail. The link to the A-SIS articles in there is http://partners.netapp.com/go/techontap/dedupe.html
.
Afterwards, read the FAQ from the July issue. That should be round out your knowledge on the subject.

I am also glad to see that the confusion did not last long and the Tech OnTap guys saw the opportunity and jumped on it. Having been recruited into the member review board of this monthly newsletter, I am getting an appreciation of how seriously they take the business. Good job Friea!

  1. Just today, I have received a note that a tech report on NetApp A-SIS De-duplication functionality is in the works at

    http://www.netapp.com/library/tr/3505.pdf

It includes a deployment and implementation guide.
