I tend to keep up with all the chatter, noise and the discussions that go on in the openid mailing lists, openid.general and openid.specs. Mainly in the hopes that may be this century, the good folks who are involved in the OpenID specification development will actually come to a common agreement on what is broken in OpenID 2.0 specification and how it can be fixed. Catching up with the list traffic has been like catching up on the weekday soap episodes..
One interesting tidbit from this post is Drummond’s announcement of the revamping of the XRI pricing structure by XDI.
XDI.org is planning to change that policy. Also, effective June 1, the wholesale annual price of personal i-names is USD $5, and personal i-numbers is USD $1
The keyword here being “wholesale” and also note that those prices are PER YEAR. I do not think as an end user, I can go to one of the retail sites and buy an i-name or i-number for either $5 or $1. For example, 2idi.com charges $12 for an i-name and do not even offer an i-number at the time being. The other website selling XRI identifiers, 1id.com, charges twice as much for i-names and also does not offer i-numbers. May be in time, they will but who knows.
I don’t think dropping prices a bit to XRI whole sellers is really an answer. If this is an effort to make the XRI inclusion in OpenID 2.0 more palatable, I am afraid this will backfire.
