Got my AirTunes

Too bad my DI-624 does not support WDS. But no worries. I was able to get my Airport Express with AirTunes to join my wireless network as a “client”. I was NOT able to use the Airport Setup Assistant to configure the brick as a client. The app just hung, forcing me to “Force Quit” it. So I configured it as a regular base station. I then switched my wireless network to this new network and used the Aiport Admin Utility to join it to my wireless network. Voila! While your are in the Utility, you will name your powered speakers: e.g. family room speakers etc.

In case you are wondering how you actually route music to your powered speakers – once all this jazz is done, open iTunes and on the bottom right hand corner, you will see a pull down menu to choose either “Computer” or the name you gave to your speakers in the admin utility (e.g. family room speakers). If there is a problem with its wireless connection, that name will appear in italic

BEWARE: If someone gains access to your wireless network and has iTunes, then I am sure they can pump your speakers with their OWN music !! Just the scream factor would be worth it :) In the Airport Admin Utility, select the tab Music and set a iTunes Speaker Password. iTunes will then prompt you for a password next time you select iTunes Express for your speakers.
